How to Delete Shifts

Delete one shift or many at once from the Schedule. Deleted shifts can't be recovered — if you want to hide shifts from staff without removing them, see How to Un-Publish Shifts instead.

Before you start

  • You need scheduling permissions for the community. If you don't see the option to delete a shift, ask an Administrator to review your role — see How to Manage User Permissions.

  • You can delete both draft and posted shifts. Deleting a posted shift removes it from the Schedule and from the staff member's Veras app.

Deletion is permanent. There is no way to recover a deleted shift.

Delete a single shift

Use this path to remove one specific shift from the Schedule.

  1. In the left sidebar, click Schedule.

  2. Find the shift you want to delete and click on it to open Shift Details.

  3. In the top right of the Shift Details panel, click the three-dot menu (⋮).

  4. Select Delete shift.

  5. Toggle Notify employee of cancellation on or off. When on, the staff member receives a cancellation message in the Veras app.

  6. Click Cancel shift to confirm.

Cancelled shifts are removed immediately and permanently.

Delete shifts in bulk

There are two ways to delete many shifts at once: from a staff member's row, or using the multi-select tool.

From a staff member's row

Use this path to delete all shifts for one staff member within your current Schedule view.

Note: This option deletes shifts in the time period currently visible on your Schedule — not a custom date range. Before using it, navigate to the view (Day, Week, or Month) and date that covers the shifts you want to remove.

  1. In the left sidebar, click Schedule.

  2. Find the staff member's row and click the three-dot menu (⋮) to the right of their name.

  3. Select Delete shifts.

  4. In the Delete shifts dialog, review the Date range. It pre-fills with the time period currently visible on your Schedule — adjust it if needed.

  5. Click Delete shifts to confirm

Deleted shifts are removed immediately and permanently. Only shifts visible in your current view are affected — shifts outside that date range are not removed.

Using multi-select

You can also delete multiple shifts at once using the multi-select tool — useful when you need to remove shifts across several staff members or a specific section of the schedule at once. See How to Use the Multi-Select for full instructions.

Common questions

Q: Can I recover a shift after deleting it?

A: No. Deletion is permanent. If you deleted a shift by mistake, you'll need to add it back manually — see Manually Add Shifts to the Schedule.

Q: What's the difference between deleting a shift and unassigning it?

A: Deleting removes the shift from the Schedule entirely. Unassigning removes the staff member from the shift, but the shift stays on the Schedule as an open slot that can be filled later. If you want to keep the slot, use How to Unassign Shifts instead.

Q: What's the difference between deleting a shift and moving to draft it?

A: Deleting removes the shift permanently. Moving to Draft hides the shift from staff and converts it back to a draft — you can still edit and re-post it. If you want to hide shifts temporarily, see How to Move Shifts to Draft.

Q: Does the staff member get notified when I delete their shift?

A: Only if you turn on the Notify employee of cancellation toggle. If the toggle is off, no notification is sent. When turned on, the staff member receives a message in the Veras app.

Q: Does the bulk row-menu deletion affect past shifts?

A: No. The deletion only applies to the date range you select. Shifts before the start date are not affected.
