Before you start
You need scheduling permissions for your community. If you don't see the Time Off panel when you click a time-off day, ask an admin to update your role — see How to Manage User Permissions.
Removing time off does not sync with your HRIS. You'll see this reminder in the dialog. Record the change in your HR or payroll system separately.
Removing time off makes the staff member available for scheduling on that day. It does not automatically assign them any shifts.
If your community has "Auto-unassign shifts when time off is added" turned on, adding time off automatically moves any conflicting shifts to open. Removing the time off does not move those shifts back — you'll need to reassign them manually after removing. See How to Fill an Open Shift.
Remove time off
Go to the Schedule page.
Find the staff member's row and click on the cell showing the airplane icon — this is the day marked as time off.
The Time Off panel opens. It shows the employee name, date, and reason on file. Review the Scheduled shifts line — it tells you whether any shifts exist on this day.
Click Remove Time Off.
Removing time off makes this staff member available for the day. This will not sync with your HRIS — record the change in your HR or payroll system separately.
The airplane icon disappears from the staff member's row, and the day is clear for scheduling.
Common questions
Q: Will removing time off sync with our HR or payroll system?
A: No — Veras shows this reminder in the dialog itself. Removing time off only affects the Veras schedule. Update your HR or payroll system separately.
Q: What does "Scheduled shifts: No conflicts" mean in the panel?
A: It means the staff member has no shifts assigned on this day. If there are shifts on file, the panel will reflect that — but you can still proceed with removing the time off. Removing time off does not automatically assign or reassign any shifts.
Q: I removed time off but the staff member's shift is still showing as open. What do I do?
A: If your community has Auto-unassign shifts when time off is added turned on, adding time off automatically moved that shift to open. Removing the time off does not move the shift back — you'll need to reassign it manually. See How to Fill an Open Shift.
Q: What if I want to remove time off for several days at once?
A: Remove each day individually — click the airplane icon on each day and confirm in the panel. There is no bulk-remove option.
Q: I entered time off by mistake. Will the staff member see anything different?
A: Staff see their schedule through the Veras app. Once you remove the time off, the day no longer appears blocked on their schedule. Veras does not push a notification about the change — they'll see the updated schedule the next time they open the app.
Q: How do I enter time off in the first place?
